AbstractEntry about Francois Gesseau Chouteau, or Francois Chouteau (1797-1838), also known as "Jesse" according to this source. Native of Saint Louis, Missouri and manager of "the trade of the Kansas River from the post he established in 1820 near the mouth of the Missouri River," relocated in 1826 "to the site that would become Kansas City, thus becoming the founder of that settlement."
