AbstractArticle entitled "Confluence of People and Place: The Chouteau Posts on the Missouri and Kansas Rivers" written by David Boutros. Investigates the location of the Chouteau trading posts in the 1822-26 time period. There is strong evidence now that the original settlement was on the north side of the Missouri River in Clay County just west of the Chouteau Bridge.
NotesThe author states that "A careful review of all the traditional knowledge of Francois and Berenice Chouteau reveals that most has its roots in John Calvin McCoy's 'Tales of an Old Timer'." This article quotes this source in detail.
