AbstractPhoto and bio of William Vaughan, a grain executive and builder of "Elevator 'A,' the first elevator built and successfully operated in the Missouri valley." Born in Virginia in 1829 and raised in Clay County, Missouri before becoming a Kansas Territory representative in the 1850s and then a Confederate officer in the Civil War, coming to Kansas City in 1865 as a grain dealer.
