| Abstract | Dr. William Wallace Dougherty attended the dedication and opening of the Hannibal Bridge in Kansas City on July 3, 1869. He recorded the event in his diary. "The Bridge is a triumphant success, five Locomotives were in the middle of the bridge at once, and no sign of giving way." His diaries covering the years 1854-1880 have been transcribed and published by the Clay County Archives and Historical Library, Inc. |
| Notes | Willilam W. Dougherty was a practicing physician, living in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri, beginning in 1850. He was the nephew of Major John Dougherty, Indian agent and Clay County resident and went with him to the far West in the 1830s. |
