| Title | Civil War on the Missouri-Kansas Border |
| Abstract | The border warfare experienced between Kansas and Missouri in the decade before the Civil War is examined in this book. The author states his belief that the raids and atrocities committed by the Kansas Jayhawkers and Jennison's "Red Legs" with their forays into Missouri led to the organization of the southern sympathizer guerrillas. Much of the book also details William Quantrill, "Bloody Bill" Anderson, and other guerrillas and their activities during the Civil War years. The point of view given reflects the Confederate cause and the author states on p. 305, "most studies of the Border War have been too limited in scope and failed to place the conflict in a meaningful political, psychological, and ideological context. This writer earnestly sought to remedy that deficiency." |
