AbstractBiographical article about Edgar Faris (1882-1945), a Kansas City architect with extant works dating between 1908 and 1925, before moving to Miami in 1926, gaining "a national reputation as a landscape and portrait painter." Photos and description of his life and career, born in West Virginia and partially raised in Kansas City, beginning as an architect in 1902 and "especially adept in the design of Mediterranean-influenced structures," including business buildings, apartments, and residences.
NotesThe following buildings were designed by architect Edgar Faris: (1) the John Ford Drug Store and later Tapestry Brick building at 2700-2702 Prospect Avenue, built in 1909; (2) twin apartment buiidngs at 901-907 East 39th Street, built in 1909; (3) the William H. Collins residence at 232 West 52nd Street, designed in 1924 in Italian style; (4) the Rose Kallaian and Garabed Yegeshaian store and residence at 4163 Broadway, later the Gojo restaurant, designed in 1923 in Armenian or Moorish style; (5) the Alcazar Apartment Hotel at 3609 Baltimore Avenue, designed in 1925 in Spanish style; and (6) the Ponce de Leon Apartment Hotel at 4553-4555 Main Street, designed in 1925 in Spanish style.
