The Unity Society first purchased the land in 1929 and the building was completed in 1950. The Temple is open to "all faiths, all ideas, all people" and has served as a center for public speaking appearances, including celebrities such as Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Newt Gingrich, Charlton Heston, and Maya Angelou.
