Ground Breaking: The New Glam in the River Market
Not available online
TitleGround Breaking: The New Glam in the River Market
AbstractPhotos and article about the "glamorous ground breaking on the newest development in the River Market area, Conover Place at 210 [West 5th Street]. ..the first major step in a master plan [led by "developer George Birt of River Market Community Development LLC"] that includes apartments, condos, stores, offices and a hotel on 23 acres on the west end of the market area" (between 5th Street, Broadway and Delaware Streets, and the Missouri River).
NotesPage 77: "This plan is going to cement the future of the area, enhancing its viability enormously, according to all who've spoken publicly about the project. What is particularly exciting about it is that its residential focus (with more than 350 apartment[s] and [condominiums]) should help turn a destination area (primarily on weekends as visitors troop to the City Market) into a neighborhood, which is essential for future growth and development of the entire city. And since structure and community on the north side of I-35 inevitably affect downtown's direction as well, this is a project enthusiastically welcomed by city leaders."
