AbstractPhotos and biographical article about Marlin Perkins, 72-year-old (in 1978) host of the "Wild Kingdom" television show and a native of Carthage, Missouri, and resident of a Saint Louis, Missouri, suburb. Description of his life and career, born in Carthage in 1905 as Richard Marlin Perkins and starting out "[a]s a zoologist and conservationist" in Missouri before starting his television show 1945 in Chicago.
NotesPage 25: "Behind his aunt's house in the fields and woods [in Pittsburg, Kansas, circa 1910s], Marlin whiled away happy days assembling a private zoo of mammals, birds and reptiles. Neighbors would recoil in horror at the sight of 'that awful Perkins boy' wrapped up in one of his favorite snakes."
