Title12th Street
AbstractNumerous photos and captions about the diversity of types of places and walks of life along the entire stretch of 12th Street in Kansas City, including Craig's Gay 90's Bar, Time to Read bookstore, the Stockyards, J. Agno's Famous Sandwiches, Phrenologist Readings (at 918 12th Street), Wing On Lung Company Chinese food supplies (at 611 12th Street), Golden Arrow Spiritual Church of Christ, police department headquarters, Hotel Muehlebach, Elmwood Cemetery, the Street Street Shoe Shine Parlor, and past the Blue Valley industrial district its "pleasant end amid towering trees and small homes."
NotesPage 70: "Song writing is a natural outgrowth of the atmosphere of 12th Street. Although its immortality has been assured by the raucous "Rag" [the "12th Street Rag" by Euday Bowman], other composers have felt its influence, for on the street or not far distant were conceived such numbers as 'Oceana Roll Blues,' 'You're Just a Flower from an Old Bouquet' (Lucien Denni); 'Dill Pickle Rag', 'Sweet and Low', 'Crazy Bone Rag' (Charlie Johnson); 'Piccolo Pete' (Phil Baxter); and 'Melancholy Baby' (Ernie Burnett)."
