| Title | Our Whole Country, or the Past and Present of the United States |
| Abstract | Passage about the appearance of the city and some of its people. |
| Notes | Kansas City, being in Missouri, has a few slaves, but they are fast disappearing. Some forty were shipped off in one gang this spring for the southern market. The original settlers were Southerners and slaveholders, but the northern element has been pouring in upon them till a large proportion of the business men are now from the free states. There is now no talk about slavery, all are engaged in a more sensible business--building up the city. |
