AbstractArticle describes the past and present of Nicodemus, Kansas. The town was founded in 1877 by about 60 African American families from the Lexington, Kentucky, area who were intent on establishing a "Free State colony."
NotesIn 1996, five historic properties in the town of Nicodemus were designated as a National Historic Site, and are now managed by the National Park Service.
