AbstractArticle recalls the burning of a well-known windmill in Lawrence, Kansas, which was located on "Windmill Hill," near today's intersection of 9th Street and Emery Road. The windmill was completed in late 1863, operated until July 31, 1885, and was a beloved landmark and picnicking spot in Lawrence until the day it burned to the ground, April 30, 1905.
