| Notes | First black person to be employed by the Kansas City Post Office. He began working on November 5, 1883, as a city letter carrier. He served until August 1, 1930, when he retired. He died during the 1940s. The Prospect Avenue post office, built in 1926, has carried Crews's name since 1972. Before that, a post office at 1825 Vine Street was named for Crews form 1953 until 1972 when it closed. The James Crews Postal Station is at 1510 Prospect Avenue. |
