AbstractSecond of a two page article with accounts of black people regarding the futility of violence by students and others in the eastern Kansas City community.
NotesRiot information for April 1968: (1) 6 civilians killed, all blacks; (2) 62 arrests, as of April 11, totalling about 499; (3) 69 hospitalized injuries, 22 of them gunshot wounds; (4) about 154 fires, 50 of them unanswered by overworked firemen; (5) almost 2,900 National Guardsmen present; (6) 450 city police officers present at a time on 12 hour shifts, and about 180 state highway patrolmen on duty; (7) full complement of fire fighters on duty throughout the crisis.
