TitleThe Mottled Sunshine and Thinning Foliage of Autumn
AbstractPhoto and caption about the Scout Statue, a work of sculpture by artist Cyrus Dallin, in its "recently refurbished" version.
NotesAccording to the local history index card, the statue of the Scout was moved in 1922 to its present location, Penn Valley Park, on a hilltop facing north to overlook the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. The statue was removed in April 1960 for repair damage from weather and vandals. After replacing the bridle, feathers, bow, and arrows, the statue was replaced on September 21, 1960, on a new 9-foot-tall pedestal. The pedestal has a concrete core and is faced with limestone. Repairs to the Scout have cost about $1,464 and the pedestal cost about $2,617.
