AbstractArticle about the history of the city of Gladstone, Missouri, incorporated about 1905 on the site of the former town of Linden, Missouri, founded in the early 1820s in eastern Clay County. Map and description of the original town of Linden, settlement of its surrounding area in the late 1800s brought on by Willard Winner, and reasons for the incorporation of Gladstone, especially to avoid annexation by the city of Kansas City, Missouri, even though later becoming surrounded by that city. They chose the name of Gladstone for [the] euphonious sound they liked as their telephone exchange.
