AbstractBiographical article about Ben Holladay, a prominent Western freighter who was born in Kentucky about 1821 and came to Missouri, making a fortune in trade with the Utah Territory and with the Pony Express out of Weston and Saint Joseph. He engaged in the shipping industry in California before losing most of his fortune by the age of 55 in 1876.
