Nichols Co. and one of the most influential businessmen in Kansas City," dying at the age of 89 "at his home in the Alameda Towers condominium." Description of his life and career, born in 1911 as a "son of pioneer urban planner Jesse Clyde Nichols [or J. C. Nichols]," taking over his father's real estate business after his death in 1950, "nurtur[ing] and expand[ing] the Country Club Plaza, one of the nation's best-known shopping centers, for nearly 40 years."
Notes'Forbes' magazine regularly ranked Nichols among the 400 wealthiest Americans. But the magazine dropped him from the list in 1990 after determining his net worth was less than the previous estimate of $300 million.
