AbstractPortrait and biographical article about Dr. Johnston Lykins (1800-1876), "Kansas City's first legal mayor" and earlier "a missionary and a medical practitioner to the Indians." Later a real estate developer with the Lykins Addition and the Lykins Plaza Addition at about 5th and Broadway with "storage warehouses on the levee."
NotesDr. Lykins was "appointed mayor for the remaining two months of the 1853-1854 term of William Gregory who was replaced after being elected illegally because he lived outside the city limits" of Kansas City.
