| Abstract | Obituary for Colonel Thomas Swope (1827-1909), a prominent real estate investor and namesake of Swope Park, dying in 1909. Colonel Swope's body "lay in state" in the rotunda of the Kansas City Public Library at 9th and Locust Streets. His funeral service was held at Grace Episcopal Church at 13th and Broadway at 2:00 p. m. on October 8, 1909, and public schools were dismissed at noon so the children could line the streets through which his cortege would pass. |
