AbstractBates and Caldwell Counties in Missouri and Franklin and Linn Counties in Kansas were added to the metropolitan area bringing the total to 17 counties. The area is officially known as the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS CSA, after the three biggest cities. The new area of combined counties results in almost two million residents and covers more than 9,100 square miles. Article includes map and population statistics.
