| Title | A First-Rate Model Guides a Second-Chance School |
| Abstract | Article tells the story of Pamela Pearson, principal of Genesis School. Genesis, at 44th and Cleveland, "started as an alternative school in 1975." It became a charter school for middle school students in 1999. Most students are from families at or below the poverty line and many have unstable home lives and learning problems. Pearson, 37, tries to provide stability and structure, as well as encouragement to students. She also lives near the school to show students that she is party of the community. |
