AbstractLengthy article describing the aftermath of a September 15, 1926 explosion in a tunnel then under construction beneath the Missouri River. The water tunnel, a diagram of which is included in the article, extended straight down 300 feet from 1st and Wyandotte, then turned toward the north and proceeded beneath the river to Clay County.
NotesThe explosion was caused by the ignition of gas at a certain point deep in the tunnel. The eight deceased victims of the explosion known at the time of the article's publication were: Byron Taylor, Hugh Laster, Frank Garrison, Wayne Light, Patrick Joyce, W. F. Bailey, J. L. Hanes, and William Gola.
