| Title | Dog Finds Markers For Pioneers' Graves |
| Abstract | A Raytown family has discovered, thanks to their dog's digging, the gravestones of some early Jackson County pioneers. To date, six monuments have been discovered including those of the Archibald Rice family, original residents of the Rice-Tremonti Home at 66th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard. |
| Notes | Generations before suburbia came to eastern Jackson County, the land on whch the Morgans' home stands belonged to Archibald Rice, a North Carolina native who arrived in the late 1820s with his wife, Sally. In 1844 the Rices built their large home, today considered the oldest frame house in Jackson County, on the Santa Fe Trail. The family prospered by selling provisions to the thousands heading west. |
