Alas, the Lights Are Out of Sight
Not available online
TitleAlas, the Lights Are Out of Sight
AbstractArticle describes the history of the lights on the 1,042 foot "Channel 5 Tower," located at 31st and Grand. After September 11, 2001, the tower was decorated with over 1,300 red, white, and blue light bulbs. The author reports that due to an increasing number of nonfunctioning lightbulbs in the winter of 2005-06, the tower has been dark "for perhaps the longest period since the '73 energy crisis."
NotesThe author reports KCTV's plan to reilluminate the tower in the spring of 2006 with some $10,000 worth of new lightbulbs.
