| Title | Art Center Will be Named for Kauffmans |
| Abstract | The performing arts center planned to be built downtown will officially be named after the Kauffman family who have pledged forty per cent of the cost of the building. The ceremonial groundbreaking is set for October 6, 2006 with construction to begin in December. It is to open in December of 2009. The center will house the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. It was Muriel McBrien Kauffman who intially envisioned a world-class center in Kansas City and her daughter Julia Irene Kauffman who has worked to make it a reality. Nearly three quarters of the $326 million dollar budget has been raised with the Kauffmans giving $131 million. |
