Built in 1999 for conducting biomedical research and development in association with the Midwest Research Institute, the University of Kansas, and University of Missouri-Kansas City, etc., and named for co-founders James Stowers, Jr. (founder of American Century Investments mutual fund company) and his wife Virginia Stowers.
