AbstractInformation on Mattie Howard, a woman convicted of a murder in 1918, "known in Kansas City as 'queen of the underworld' and 'the girl with the agate eyes,'" born about 1897 and convicted about 1920 for the 1918 "murder of Joe Morino, a rich diamond merchant, in the Touraine hotel, 1412 Central street." Description of her later career, released from the Missouri State Penitentiary and traveling the country as an evangelist. One of the articles in the vertical file describes Mattie Howard's court case as "one of the most sensational murder trials Kansas City has ever known."
