Dr. Edward Eugene Fields was born June 24, 1918 to Sarah and Archie Fields in Kirkwood, Missouri. Residential area of their housing in Kirkwood, Missouri. Sumner High School graduate of 1936. Organizations and school festivities in which he was involved. Attended Stowe Teachers College in 1936-37. Graduated from Lincoln University in 1940. Moved to Kansas City after graduating from Lincoln University for a position as area supervisor of National Youth Administration Program. Under his administration it was integrated.

Began work for Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas. 1945 marked the beginning of the school system career here in Kansas City. He was hired as a teacher of industrial arts and began degree seeking for Master's six weeks later. Taught at Wheatley Elementary as teacher-principal from 1947 to 1954 after completing Master's Degree. Educational changes in 1960's. Recollection of riots and assassinations during that period also. Community's reacting to the death of Martin L. King.

Recollection of riots in Kansas City at Central Junior High School in Missouri. What Dr. Fields considers his role as Superintendent should be. Bussing issue and integration. The teacher's lay off and the effect on his job. Performance of children as compared with achievement norms. Dr. Fields initial plan for the school system if he receives the superintendent position.
