TranscriptionSynopsis of Interview:

Adolf Ridgway was born September 13, 1890, in Kedron, Arkansas, to John and Mattie Ridgway. Attended Richardson School in Arkansas. Left school at age 14 to help support his family. Picked cotton for 50 cents for one hundred pounds.

Came to Kansas City at the age of 28 with Cecil Morris. First job was with Santa Fe Railroad for 42 cents an hour. Description of Black community in the early 1900s. St. Stephens and Rev. Williams. Worked for K.C. Board of Trade.

Events that stood out most in his life. Recalls lynching of Black man in Kansas City, Missouri, 1927. First time to vote in an election, voting record. Types of employment. Discussion of Black community.
