| Notes | In 1921 the Liberty Memorial Association held a contest to determine the designer of the memorial. The competition was limited to five invited competitors from outside the state of Missouri and to any legitimate practicing architect or firm of architects, resident and doing business in Kansas City. The total number of entrants was 11, and they were: Bliss and Faville (San Francisco); Paul P. Cret, and Zantzinger, Borie, and Medary (Philadelphia); Bertram G. Goodhue (New York); H. Van Buren Magonigle (New York); and, from Kansas City: Brostrom and Drotts; Edward Buehler Delk; Greenbaum, Hardy, and Schumacher; Hoit, Price, and Barnes; Keene and Simpson; Selby H. Kurfiss; and Wight and Wight. Magonigle was the overwhelming favorite of the judges, though later financial constraints on the project prevented his original submission from reaching fruition. |
