AbstractPhoto and bio of Sarah Chandler Coates, or Sarah Coates (1829-1897), a teacher from Pennsylvania who moved to Kansas City with her husband, Kersey, in the 1850s. She experienced border warfare troubles while moving to a house at 10th and Pennsylvania Avenue on what became Quality Hill, and was involved in many clubs and "almost every charitable effort in the city."
