| Abstract | This collection of 67 photographs taken by William Hyde, a local 19th-century amateur photographer, covers a variety of different subjects. These include: group shots of people who were primarily workers in local businesses, country and city scenes, scenes taken after the tornado of 1886 went through Kansas City, Coates Opera House, Hannibal Bridge, Harlem area, East Bottoms and West Bottoms, and the 9th St. Incline. They provide good examples of everyday life in the growing city of the 1880s.
William Hyde was a clerk for the Loose brothers who owned the Corle Cracker and Confectionary Company in Kansas City, Missouri. |
