| Abstract | J. C. Nichols was born in Olathe, Kansas, in 1880 and died in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1950. He was a major residential land developer in the metropolitan area. He was a pioneer in the development of shopping centers, most notably the Country Club Plaza. He played an important role in the cultural, educational, and business life of the Kansas City area.
This artificial collection is housed in one box with one roll of 35mm microfilm and one folder. It is comprised of items relating to J. C. Nichols which were formerly located in other areas of Missouri Valley Special Collections. The microfilm reel consists principally of speeches delivered by Nichols in various venues. Topics include: R. A. Long, Kansas and Missouri River improvement, J. C. Nichols School, Nelson Art Gallery, World War II, homes associations, Country Club Plaza, etc. |
