AbstractElizabeth Ann Cooley was born July 21, 1825, in Grayson County, Virginia. She died of typhoid fever on March 28, 1848, being 22 years old. In her first journal (1842-1846) she wrote of her life in Virginia and her approaching marriage to James W. McClure on February 25, 1846. In the latter journal, 1846-1848, she writes about her journey to Texas and to Missouri and her life in Missouri thereafter. The journal entry reprinted in the article covers March 15, 1846, to March 29, 1848, which includes her time in Jackson County, Missouri.
