| Abstract | The majority of photographs in this collection came from the Brookings Montgomery photograph collection purchased by the library in the 1960s. Images are of outlaws, cowboys, Indians, lawmen, judges, western women, and gunmen. Subjects of local interest include Jesse James, the Younger family, the Union Station Massacre, Quantrill's Guerrillas, etc.
The majority of these western pictures are second copy photographs of pictures taken from exhibits, books, and other sources.
Montgomery's correspondence concerning these photographs may be found in P3 and covers the years 1950s-60s. Less than a hundred of the photographs in this collection are online, but all are available for viewing within the department. |
