AbstractThis article is part of a series profiling "catalysts" in Kansas City's history to mark the 25th anniversary of the Kansas City Business Journal. After selling his family-owned jewelry business to Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Barnett Helzberg founded the Helzberg Entreprenuerial Mentoring Program which pairs "budding entreprenuers" with mentors. He and his wife, Shirley, also founded the University Academy, a charter school.
