AbstractPart two in a series exploring the early history of the Kansas City, Kansas, public school system. The article describes the early schoolhouses in Wyandotte County, as well as some of the pupils and teachers, including Miss Molly Cowan and Emma Scales Bartlett. Another early educator was E. F. Heisler, who later became superintendent of Wyandotte County schools.
NotesThe information contained in the article was taken from a 1966 manuscript by Nellie McGuinn--a public school educator in Kansas City, KS. According to the article, the manuscript "takes a look, from her research and viewpoint, at the settlement and growth of Kansas City and Wyandotte County, Kansas, incorporating the history of our schools." The information was submitted for publication by Patricia Adams of the KCK Public Schools.
