Abstract"Bells across Missouri ring out for more than a century." This article gives a short synopsis of the bells in five of the earliest churches in Missouri including the five bells, named Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Regina Coeli, of Conception Abbey which was the first basilica west of the Mississippi River; St. Joseph Catholic Church at Edina in northeast Missouri; St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Cole Camp; the remarkable survival of disasters by the bell of the First Congregational United Church of Christ at Pierce City; and the 153-year old bell of the First Presbyterian Church at Cape Girardeau.
