| Title | An Egyptian Gem for KC |
| Abstract | The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has recently purchased "a spectacular painted coffin of a noblewoman named Meretites created in Egypt 2,500 years ago." The coffin does not include a mummy (the museum already owns one), but more than 300 other funerary objects are included. These items will go on public view at the museum in 2010. This acquisition was purchased with funds from the Nelson Trust. The exact cost is not given but is in seven figures. It was recently valued by a German court at more than $2 million. |
