A KC Museum Revamp
Not available online
TitleA KC Museum Revamp
AbstractThe Kansas City Museum will close on January 7, 2008, and not reopen until 2010 or later. The museum, known as Corinthian Hall, and the carriage house will get new windows and doors and be cleared of lead paint and asbestos. Also a new climate control system should be installed so that exhibits can be professionally shown.

Corinthian Hall is a Beaux Arts mansion built in 1910 by local lumberman R. A. Long and is located at 3218 Gladstone Boulevard in the Northeast area of Kansas City. The second floor of the mansion will be prepared for exhibits. "While construction is under way, a temporary visitors' center will operate in a building north of the carriage house. Exhibits and programs are planned for the northeast and central branches of the Kansas City Public Library and at Melrose United Methodist Church." The planetarium will remain open.

"The Kansas City Museum Association acquired Corinthian Hall in 1939 and the next year opened the museum. The association deeded the property to the city in 1948. Union Station Kansas City Inc. became the successor to the museum association. Last summer Union Station and the city reached an agreement for the station to continue to manage the museum, although the two sides dispute ownership of some parts of the collection."
