AbstractArticle profiles Sammie Burnett Johnson of Grandview, Missouri, who died on January 15, 2011. Johnson taught accounting at the Kansas City Kansas Community College for nearly 20 years. As a teenager, she was part of the "Memphis State Eight," a group of eight African-American students who were the first to enroll at Memphis State (now the University of Memphis) in 1959.
