AbstractHenry Johnson served in an all-black infantry regiment in France during 1918. Johnson's family tried to have him posthumously receive the nation's highest award for valor in 2003 but he was given the Distinguished Service Cross instead. "Recently a U.S. Senate staff member came across a digitized document on a commerical research website," which might change things for the family.
