AbstractArticle recounts the December 1921 coal strike in southeast Kansas involving the "Amazon Army"- the wives, mothers, sisters, and friends of the striking mine workers. They led a series of marches to prevent any escalation of violence, but also to keep strikebreakers from reopening closed Kansas mines.
