AbstractArticle profiles the career of blues singer Diane "Mama" Ray. Born into a musical family, Ray took singing and music lessons as a young child and performed in a variety of productions. In 1962, she moved to Kansas City and quickly became a fixture in the local blues and jazz community. Ray has performed regularly ever since and has received several awards for her contribution to Kansas City jazz and blues music.
