AbstractArticle profiles twelve women who are influencing the local music scene in various ways: Kristie Stremel, soloist and former member of Frogpond and Exit 159; Hearts of Darkness singers Brandy Gordon, Rachel Christia, and Erica Townsend; Alicia Solombrino, lead singer of Beautiful Bodies; Jeriney Homegrown, host of the "Homegrown" radio show on KRBZ (96.5 FM); Julia Haile, vocalist for Good Foot, a retro-soul band; musician Amy Farrand, who hosts a weekly music show called the Weirdo Wednesday Supper Club; fiddle player Betse Ellis, founding member of the Wilders; Lauren Krum, singer for the Grisley Hand and Ruddy Swain; Abigail Henderson, musician and co-founder of the Midwest Music Foundation, a support organization for musicians; and Jacki Beckerm, music promoter and owner of Up to Eleven, a live-music promotion company.
