| Title | Sisters Keep Women-Owned KC Shop in Family |
| Abstract | Sisters Abbey Fields and Sarah Douglas believe their business, Shop Beautiful, is the only retail store in Kansas City to have been continuously owned and operated by women for at least 75 years. The business began in 1936 by sisters Alice DeVasher and Dorothy Gangwer as an antique and gift store. Fields' and Douglas' mother, Ruthelma Martin, bought the store in 1967. Many Shop Beautiful customers have been coming to the store for decades, and can remember stories about the original owners. |
