Not available online
TitleGM Burnishing its Crown Jewel
AbstractArticle on General Motors planning to invest $600 million in its Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas. The money will be used "to build and equip a 450,000-square-foot paint shop and upgrade the plant's stamping press, among other improvements," making it the "'crown jewel'" of its manufacturing system. The investment is one of the largest GM has ever made in an existing plant. The Fairfax plant produces the Buick LaCrosse and the Chevrolet Malibu.
