AbstractBiographical sketch of Jesse Fitts or J. C. Fitts, president of the Fitts-Smith Dry Goods Company at 407 West 8th Street. He was born in New Jersey in 1868 and came to Missouri in the 1880s as a dry goods merchant, joining his present company in 1903 which at the time was called the Maxwell-McClure Notion Company, and in the same years starting the Fitts-Bunker Mercantile Company.
NotesThe Fitts-Smith Dry Goods Company was started in 1903 as the Maxwell-McClure Notion Company of Kansas City, changed in 1905 to the Maxwell-McClure-Fitts Dry Goods Company, and then in 1918 to the Fitts-Smith Dry Goods Company.
